Ferdinand Plitzer, the most important German cabinetmaker of the early eighteenth century, created high-quality furniture for aristocratic patrons. This box, which held writing and sealing implements, shows his mastery of the boulle marquetry technique, executed in tortoiseshell and pewter. The double monogram LG crowned by count’s coronet is unidentified.
